Crystal Report details

Hi

I have Crystal report(.rpt) in Crystal report 8.5 version and 2013 version. Currently it is standalone reports fetches data from SQL Database.

Now database has been migrated to AWS SQL 2016.I want to know instead of using as standalone crystal in users local machine can we reuse the created Crystal reports in Report server and provide access to Users so that they can provide paramaters and pull reports from Report user. Please let me know the pre-requisite to do this?

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi viswac123,

yes, you can use Crystal reports as described here: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … l-Reports/

You can upload the .rpt file to reportserver, create parameters and depending on the permissions of your users (described here: https://reportserver.net/en/tutorials/t … rmissions/ and https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … nagement/) you can then let your users download/execute your reports.

Pls note that Crystal is an Enterprise feature, but you can use the trial period time for evaluation. More details here: https://reportserver.net/en/pricing/ (scroll down the page)

Eduardo

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi Thank you for the reply.

I have few clarifications needed on the license part, do we need Crystal report license for each users when they access the Crystal reports through Report Server. Also please let me know the license cost for the Crystal report to be installed in the Repot server.

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi viswac123,

For further investigation into Licensing pls. check: https://www.sap.com/documents/2015/07/3 … 511fa.html specifically page 5.

To create crystal reports ( i.e. to create .rpt files ) you need a valid crystal report license. To distribute valid crystal reports, i.e. deploy via reportserver, you have to install the SAP Crystal Reports for Java runtime components (short, the Java Reporting Component (JRC)). You'll find these, for example, on the SAP download: (You may have to register) https://www.sap.com/cmp/td/sap-crystal- … trial.html

Pls. check here for further information:

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi Thank you for the reply.

I understand that we need to install the SAP Crystal report along with dependencies needs to be installed in Report server. As a end user perspective do we need to install anything in user local machine to access the Crystal report in report server. Also whether we can pass parameter for the crystal report in the report server and generate the PDF report based on parameter passed.

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi Viswa,

you only have to install the dependencies in the server (mentioned in the above link: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … -Reports/). The client doesn't have to install anything in order to access the reports, only an actual browser.

Yes, you can pass parameters in crystal reports analogous as in all other report types (birt, jasper, dynamic lists, etc). More information on parameters here: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … arameters/  , https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … arameters/

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi Viswa,

yes, the standard output of Crystal reports in ReportServer is pdf, so this should happen automatically.

I would recommend you to use the ReportServer EE evaluation to test and check if what you need is fulfilled by the application. As always you are welcome to ask here if you have any question/problem regarding your installation.

Eduardo

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi

Also I tried installing the Report server Windows trial version through Bitnami but after system reboot the page is not working and getting the below error  also I want to change the datasource to SQL for my application. Can you please guide me to achieve it?

Your application is not available
Your application may not be available for many reasons:

If you just launched the server, please wait a few minutes for the application to deploy. It is common behavior for Java applications.
Your application may not be working properly. Please check the application log file.
This page will automatically refresh every 15 seconds until the application is available.

Hi

For installing the SAP Crystal report for Eclipse I understand that we need to register https://www.sap.com/cmp/td/sap-crystal- … trial.html. Do we need to buy this if we are going to install in Production server?

Hi viswac123,

let's solve this issue first so step by step. If I understand correctly , you only download the bitnami file above: Windows 64bits - ReportServer 3.7.1-6048 , then install it via "next next next", you don't change anything apart from your username and passwort, then you restart windows, and it does not work, correct ?

did you change anything regarding libraries?
did you start the services in the "services" tab of the windows package? can you pls post some screenshots? you can use http://imgbb.com for this.

Eduardo

Re: Crystal Report details

Hi

Yes you are right, unfortunately I cannot upload any images in website due to security issues. As you mentioned I never changed anything and clicked next next next. I didn't change anything in the libraries. I just started the C:\Bitnami\reportserverenterprise-3.7.1.6046-1\viswa\apache2\bin - httpd.exe for running the report.

It is fine we will look on this issue little later, can you please update on the other queries. Based on this I need to design and submit.
