I just Downloaded report server from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dw-rs/
and tried to run it in booth of apache and tomcat with same error message

ReportServer is a Java Servlet application that requires an application server (such as Tomcat). So an Apache alone won't work. Did you have a look at the ReportServer config guide's chapter on installing ReportServer?

Yes i just got the same error message, i'm using ubuntu 12.04
i nstalled the files from source and tried to run them on my tomcat local host
when i tried to install it on windows every thing was ok after run exe installation file
but ineed it to be run on ubuntu

I am afraid, you'll need to learn at least a minimum about what Tomcat is and how to operate it. For example, there is a huge difference between a log file and what you actually see in your browser and without looking at the log files you won't be able to figure out what is going wrong. What I can tell you is that ReportServer runs perfectly fine on Ubuntu with Tomcat.

my current guess is that there is some library clash. This is indicated by the many
INFO: TLD skipped. URI: http://java.sun.com/jstl/core_rt is already definedlines you see in the error log. Are you running any other applications besides ReportServer within that Tomcat? If so, could you try running ReportServer within a freshly installed and otherwise unused Tomcat?

I'm running reportserver alone on this tomcat instance and no other applications.
I also tried to uninstall and reinstall tomcat7 but no luck
I tried to search for jstl on my server and is physically present in /usr/share/java but has a soft link from maven-repo.

Hi,
have you looked through all the log files? Sometimes there is a hint in one of the other files. The first error that appears in the original log occurs at a point where ReportServer tries to connect to its database. Could you recheck the database settings and search for other error messages in the other log files?

I managed to get away with this issue by removing tomcat totally and installing tomcat version 8 and jdk 7. works fine. Thanks for your assistance.

I think Java was the same version. Tomcat was 6. Basically i followed the steps explained in a link i found on the web
pasting the steps below as i thought it would help others
Step 1: Install Tomcat from Binary
First, head-on-over to the Apache Tomcat 8 Download site.
Under Binary Distributions you’ll see Core and then tar.gz. Right click on tar.gz and copy the URL.
From your server, download Apache Tomcat 8 from the URL you copied in the previous step:
wget http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/apache/tomca … 0.9.tar.gz
Alternatively, if you download the file to your local desktop, you’ll want to transfer the file to your Liquid Web server. If you need help with that,
After the download completes, decompress the file:
tar xvzf apache-tomcat-8.0.9.tar.gz
Now, move the file into a proper location:
mv apache-tomcat-8.0.9 /opt/tomcat
Step 2: Install Java 7
Before you can use Tomcat you’ll have to install the Java Development Kit (JDK) 7. First let’s check to see if Java is installed:
java -version
If that returns the following then Java hasn’t yet been installed:

To install Java, simply run the following command (and at the prompt enter Y to continue):

The reason was an unexceptiontioned previous error before. Here, an error in the link of a jar file.
Regarding MVC-design principle, errors in the model or controller, should not lead to display errors in the view.
