Before I Start

Hi All.

I have done quite a bit of reading, but cannot seem to determine if ReportServer will work for me, so I hope you dont mind me asking before I install...

I have a database which holds data on multiple companies, this supports a SaaS solution.

I want to create dashboards in Reportserver which can be accessed from my SaaS application and results 'filtered' by the organisation ID of the user accessing the data.

Is this possible without setting up a user on Report Server for everyone who is on my SaaS?

A second requirement might also be to restrict reports by user, but if I cant do that - I could manage this in my SaaS.

Can anyone point me to reading mterial on this?

Thanks (and sorry for using this forum for a pre-install question).

Re: Before I Start

Hi Mark,

to filter your results you can use parameters. Information on parameters here: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … arameters/
Since the parameter depends on the user, you can use a "user variable parameter". Details in the link above and here: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … Variables/
Please keep in mind that user variables use your OU's hierarchy, so you don't have to set the parameter to all users in the OU, but only to the OU -> the value will be passed to all users inside this OU.

Regarding your second requirement: yes, of course it is also possible to restrict reports by user. ReportServer has a fine granulated permission management, suitable for most needs. Please take a look here for this: https://reportserver.net/en/guides/admi … anagement/

Regards,
Eduardo
